Sport and the Creative Arts

At Castle Court, we believe that a truly exceptional education is about developing the whole child, making the most of every moment of their one childhood.

Through a rich and varied programme, children at Castle Court are encouraged to explore, create and perform, developing the confidence, resilience and imagination that underpin future leaders, thinkers and creators.

Sport plays a central role in this journey, with a broad and inclusive approach that encourages every pupil to participate, challenge themselves and enjoy being active.

Creative and performing arts are equally vibrant, offering children the opportunity to express themselves, build confidence and discover their individual talents.

Sport

Castle Court’s Sports Programme inspires pupils to develop confidence, resilience and a genuine enjoyment of physical activity within a supportive and ambitious environment. From the earliest years, children build strong physical foundations, developing essential skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching, kicking, balance and coordination, while fostering a positive attitude towards teamwork and participation.

As pupils progress through the school, they benefit from a broad and dynamic programme of sport, with regular fixtures and competitive opportunities in football, rugby, hockey, netball, cricket, athletics, tennis and swimming. There is a clear emphasis on both inclusion and aspiration, ensuring that every child experiences the value of teamwork and commitment, while also providing pathways for those competing at local, regional and national level.

Specialist coaching, combined with tailored support throughout the school day, enables every pupil to develop their abilities to the fullest. From Year 3, children benefit from sport every day within their timetable, building skills, confidence and a love of activity. Within this nurturing environment, many go on to secure sports scholarships to leading independent senior schools, while others progress along county, regional and national pathways in disciplines such as biathlon, hockey, football and cricket.

Alongside traditional team sports, pupils are encouraged to explore a wide range of individual pursuits, including golf, swimming, horse riding, karate, motocross, mountain biking and boxing. Through an extensive games programme and co-curricular opportunities, pupils are supported to discover their interests, remain active and develop a lifelong connection with sport, leaving Castle Court ready to embrace new challenges with confidence.

Performing and Creative Arts

At Castle Court, the creative and performing arts are alive, vibrant and central to school life, giving every child the opportunity to explore, create and perform with confidence. From an early age, children are immersed in music, dance and drama, beginning in Badger Cubs, with specialist teaching in dance from the earliest years, music from Reception and drama from Year 3. Performance is a shared experience, with all children involved in productions—Badger Cubs to Year 2 perform at Christmas, and Years 3 and 4 take to the stage in the Spring Term.

In Year 6, all pupils come together for a  production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, where Shakespeare comes alive and every child takes part. Alongside this, the Senior Play offers further opportunity for pupils to develop their talents, with children auditioning for acting, singing or dancing roles, or choosing to take on important responsibilities behind the scenes, including set design, props, special effects and stage management.

Public speaking is also a key focus in the senior years, with pupils developing confidence, clarity and presence, culminating in TEDx-style talks hosted by Year 8.

Peripatetic music teachers further enrich school life, offering a wide range of individual lessons—from piano and violin to guitar, drums, woodwind and brass, and even DJing. Regular concerts and performing arts showcases provide opportunities for every child to share and celebrate their talents, with many pupils going on to achieve success in external examinations and to be awarded music, drama and art scholarships to their senior schools.

Complementing this, our specialist Design and Technology and Art centre provides children from Year 3 with dedicated weekly time to develop their creative skills. With access to CAD design, 3D printing and laser cutting, alongside traditional woodworking and electrical projects, pupils experience the full breadth of modern design. Our inspiring Art room, opening onto its own art garden, offers opportunities to explore all mediums, including ceramics with access to a kiln. Together, these experiences ensure that creativity is not only nurtured but celebrated, equipping children with the skills, confidence and inspiration to pursue their interests as they move on to senior school and beyond.
