Junior (Years 3-6)

Children begin to work with a wider range of specialist teachers, helping them discover new talents and interests while developing organisation, responsibility and independence.

Curiosity, Character, and the Curriculum

English and mathematics lessons encourage deeper thinking, resilience and enjoyment of challenge, while science, humanities, languages, art, music and computing provide breadth and intellectual curiosity across the curriculum. Technology is used purposefully to enhance learning, collaboration and digital confidence.

The 7Cs underpin every aspect of Junior life. Pupils are encouraged to demonstrate courage in tackling new challenges, commitment in their learning, creativity in problem-solving and compassion in their relationships with others. Collaboration and courtesy remain central to the warm and inclusive Castle Court community.

The Prep School Baccalaureate becomes increasingly embedded throughout the Junior years. Pupils develop critical thinking, teamwork, communication and reflective learning skills, while beginning to take greater ownership of their academic progress and personal growth.

Preparing for the Senior Transition

Beyond the classroom, children enjoy a rich programme of sport, drama, music, clubs, educational visits and residential experiences.

Competitive fixtures foster teamwork and sportsmanship, while productions, concerts and performances build confidence, creativity and communication skills.

Leadership opportunities begin to emerge more strongly throughout Years 5 and 6, with pupils acting as positive role models for younger children and contributing meaningfully to school life. Study skills, interview preparation and increased independence help prepare pupils for the transition into the Senior Section.

By the end of Year 6, pupils are academically prepared, emotionally confident and increasingly self-aware. They move forward as well-rounded young people who are ready to embrace greater responsibility, challenge and opportunity
