The Pre-Prep Department comprises Year 1 and Year 2 children. These years are crucial for the children in terms of their social and academic development. We know how important it is for the children to enjoy their first years of formal schooling, and therefore we place a high priority on encouraging a positive self-image and work ethic. We celebrate equally academic achievement, effort and courtesy.
Every child is valued and encouraged to develop their talents across the curriculum. We take a cross-curricular approach to teaching and learning, aiming to build on their natural enthusiasm and thirst for knowledge. Core subjects are taught in the morning, with more creative and practical learning in the afternoon. Forest Schools provides a wonderful opportunity for the children to explore our beautiful grounds and develop their sense of awe and wonder. French, Music, Recorders and P.E. are taught by specialist staff. Each member of staff in the department knows every child well and there is very close communication between the staff and parents.
We encourage the children to become more independent as they progress through the department. They learn to respect and care for one another, as part of the school family. We provide many opportunities for them to work and play with their peers, and to build friendships which will last throughout their time at Castle Court – and beyond!
