Castle Court’s Biathlon and Swimming Squads are having a triumphant end to their seasons.
Eight members of the biathlon squad were at the National Biathlon finals at Crystal Palace, held on Sunday 24th March. Six members of the squad came back as medal winners. The Year 5 boys’ team of Max, Freddie and Toby were team winners and Toby was also individual winner of this competition. The Year 7 boys’ team of George R, Ben S and Jed were the third placed team in their category, and Ben Sl was second placed individual.
Nick Robinson, Director of Sport commented “We are a relatively small prep school, competing at the highest levels in the country. Nearly 10,000 children started this competition, so to have eight children represent the school at the national finals was a superb achievement. We are also winning against far larger schools, many of whom have over 175 children in a year group to choose from. We are selecting from a total squad of nearly 150 from the top few years at the school. The specialist coaching that the children are receiving in both athletics and swimming is clearly the best in the region. Our results speak for themselves.”
The squad’s success has continued in the national prep school championships (IAPS). Out of over 4,200 entries, Castle Court’s swim squad will send representatives in the following individual finals:
Ella-Rose 25m freestyle, Izzy P, 50m breaststroke; Toby 25m freestyle; Jed 50m Breaststroke; Ben S 50m freestyle.
The boys U12 medley and freestyle relay teams, of Jordan r, George R, Ludo, Jed and Ben S have also won places at the same finals.
Richard Stevenson, Headmaster said “This is the largest squad we have sent to both the National Biathlon finals and the IAPS finals. We have a very strong swim programme here at Castle Court, which is helped by our strong links with Swim Bournemouth. The depth of talent in the school is amazing, and the opportunities that we are able to offer these children is second to none. No other school in the area has had such success with such demanding sports. The early morning swim sessions that our children attend at Canford are now really paying dividends. I am very proud that children from Castle Court are now representing their school at so many national competitions. It really is setting them up superbly when they move onto their senior schools.”
