Music

There's a very strong musical tradition here. The Director of music and a dozen specialist music staff engender a zest for music making.

They teach piano, singing and every orchestral instrument. They also run:

  • an orchestra
  • a band
  • two choirs
  • brass ensembles
  • wind ensembles
  • string ensembles
  • percussion groups
  • jazz groups

There are lots of chances to play together and perform at informal lunchtime concerts, in our annual school concert and in concerts at local venues.

Music exam results are excellent. Many pupils reach the higher grades and several win music scholarships to senior schools.

Every year we run a three-day orchestral course attended by young musicians from across the country.

Art

Our art teachers stimulate a marvellous blossoming of creative experience, ranging from pencil drawing to plaster modelling, acrylic painting to screen printing and digital design. Bold and colourful ceramic work captures the imagination in pottery

Design & Technology

Design technology combines dexterity, creative thinking and engineering. It gives pupils the exciting and rigorous challenge of seeing a project through from first sketches to detailed planning (often including computer design) to final construction and, hopefully, a working model!
