Away From the Classroom

Homework

From Year 5, children can stay for tea. They can do their homework and try their hand at the many activities we offer. It's a great opportunity to discover new interests, explore new hobbies and develop new skills.

After school activities

Activities may include art, basketball, band, chess, computer-controlled robotics, cross-country, dance, drama, German, golf, orchestra, pottery, riding, sailing, squash, Royal tennis, lawn and short tennis, volleyball and woodwork. There are also opportunities for the children to learn more about the Christian faith through the voluntary Quest club and Jteam, where as in prayers each morning we seek to present Christianity in a lively way.

Expeditions

We go off on all sorts of expeditions. These are an integral part of subject teaching : museum trips, theatre visits, trips to Old Sarum, to the coast, to Corfe Castle, even to the local waste-tip! There's a Year 5 trip to France and a ski trip every other Christmas. Year 4 stay at the Kingcombe environmental study centre, and leavers spend a week in Devon. Sports tours have gone to the Isle of Wight, Devon, Cornwall, Norfolk, Spain and Berlin.

"I love camping out with my friends in the school grounds"

Year 3 Pupil
Camping

We are well equipped to take any year group camping; so from the age of seven the children learn to be self-reliant, to solve problems and work together. We camp out in the school grounds, the Isle of Wight and in the woods beside Poole harbour. Activities include rock-climbing, windsurfing, raft-building, canoeing and back-packing.

Holiday club

We also run popular holiday courses, providing coaching and fun in activities such as biking, cake-decorating, circus skills, cricket, golf, orienteering, robotics and roller-blading.
