Design And Technology

Design and Technology is an important element in the school programme. Pupils have lessons every week from Year 3 upwards in the purpose built Design and Technology centre.

The aims of the course are:

  • to nurture enthusiasm for and to give an insight into the subject by offering a broad range of activities
  • to give each child the opportunity to learn skills and to experience the design and making of projects from a range of materials
  • to develop an awareness of the importance of new technologies
  • to teach children an awareness of aesthetics and fitness-for-purpose in natural and man-made products
  • to provide a firm foundation for future work at GCSE and beyond

The D&T department is well-equipped for resistant materials (wood, metal and plastic) and graphic communication. Electronics is regularly incorporated into project work and there is a close link with ICT in terms of graphic design and also CAD/CAM.

The following pages capture some aspects of the department.
