Canford music morning at Castle Court

Year 6 had the honour of Canford music staff plus a few senior pupils visiting them this morning for an hour of music and fun!  The year group were given the chance to try a number of different instruments, strings, brass, and wind and put together mini performances.  The James Bond theme played by the strings, after 20 minutes practice was very impressive!  Our Year 6 children were also able to listen to the Canford pupils play, so they could appreciate what ensemble pieces could sound like after a lot of hard work!

Ice cream all round!

Last week inspectors from the ISI spent four days at the school.  The children were very helpful during this time, and so as a thank you our Headmaster arranged for an ice cream van to visit.  So Thursday after lunch was a time for “ice cream for all!” Yummy!! And a beautiful afternoon in which to enjoy them as well….. perfect.

Harvest Festival : Macmillan Coffee Morning : BCHA

This morning has been one of celebration!  The whole school Harvest Festival was followed by the  World’s Largest Coffee Morning on behalf of Macmillan organised by the Castle Court Parents and Friends.  The morning began with hymns, readings, prayers and performances in the Harvest celebration and finished with cakes and coffee in the Family Lounge.  Just before lunch the BCHA team came to collect everyone’s generous donations of food for their food bank.  The Macmillan coffee morning raised nearly £1600, and BCHA took away two car loads of donations.  Thank you to everyone.

Trips!

The first few weeks of term have already seen a number of year groups out on trips, visiting Honeybrook Farm and Brownsea Island, and trips to The Priest’s House Museum and The Traveller’s Rest Farm to follow later this week.  There are more photos on the parents’ page of Moodle for you to enjoy, or go to our Facebook page.

iPads in the classroom

This term we have seen the exciting development of iPads being used by children from Year 3 to Year 8.  Last year we trialled a bring your own device approach to using technology in the classroom and this year we have gone one step further with all children in Year 3 to 7 being given their own device, and next year this will include children in Year 8.  With so much educational content now available on line this initiative has added an extra dimension to teaching and learning in the classrooms.

Fundraising Results

Well done to our Year 8s who spent time at the end of term raising money for two local charities supported by Castle Court, BCHA and Margaret Green Animal Rescue.  The BCHA fund raising idea saw most members of Year 8 spending the night

sleeping outside at school in cardboard boxes; it was a very sobering experience, and financially successful with £750 in sponsorship being raised.  The fete at the end of term was a fun time for all in the school and raised £370 for Margaret Green.  Thank you to all who were involved.

Speech Day

What a fabulous way to end this year! Great music, a chance to celebrate the children’s successes, friendship, fun, Pimms on the lawn and the traditional leavers lunch, for those families whose children are leaving to go onto their senior schools.  A great way to round off what has been a fabulous year.  On top of this Rachel Smith, the Atlantic rower and GB Dragon Boat gold medallist joined us to inspire us all.

Have a fabulous summer!

You will go to the ball!

CCPaF are hosting the Castle Court Summer Ball in aid of Julia’s House on Saturday 27th June.  The marquee is up, the caterers have arrived to help to set up the tables and prepare the food, and the marquee is now being decorated.  Soon all will be ready for an evening, of great food, music, dancing and friendship.  Thank you to everyone who has helped make this evening possible, through either their time or by sponsoring aspects of the night.  As a school, we look forward to being able to help to support the fabulous work undertaken by Julia’s House.

Here is the marquee being prepared this afternoon:

Adventure time!

Badgers and Badger Cubs entered into the spirit of the outdoor adventures that all in the rest of the school have been enjoying this week, by holding an adventure morning to which all Mummies and Daddies were invited. There was a treasure trail around the woods, fun with water, arts and crafts as well as fun the the play park which had been turned into a  underwater sea adventure! The older children have been slightly further afield for their activities: wild camping in the Purbecks, visits to adventure centres in France, as well the second world war battle fields, and trips to an outdoor adventure centre in Devon for a week of team building.

Here are some Badgers enjoying their fun!
