Maths challenge

Castle Court attended the St Swithun’s Maths Challenge on 20th March, and so joined in with over 130 children from 20 prep schools  from across the south of England and London. The four mathematicians from Castle Court, Frances Fleming, Emma Jeffries, Alex Knox-Jones and Henry Nix faced a series of  maths quizzes and challenges including the following:

“The average person flushes a toilet 2500 times a year. An old toilet uses 9 litres per flush where as a new toilet uses only 6 litres per flush. How much water will a family of 4 save in a year, if they install a new toilet?”

Maths challenge The team were very unlucky not to come in the top three, and vowed to return next year to pit their wits against other young mathematicians from across the region.
